Radio commentator alan green on the new stadium
BBC radio 5 presenter - " alan, do you like this new stadium ? "

Alan Green - " No. its not a football ground. " .... " clubs need to think very carefully when they move stadiums , this smacks of a mistake by West Ham "

European clubs have played in the same type of stadium for years....never heard those type of comments when English clubs play there??. we are just the first in the U.K. to do it. Only a big issue over here really, just gotta get used to it.

If the team starts winning nobody will give a fuck about the stadium. Fact

I agree, OK it ain't Upton Park but if we are all honest over the last 35 years how many seasons has Upton park done the team any favours sorry to break it to some but it cannot be more than three or five seasons, that supposedly intimidating stadium was actually not much help at all.

West Ham have played very poorly some brains and hearts are missing once they wake up so will The Queen Elizabeth that is my 5 pence worth, I loved the stadium too thought it very classy, the atmosphere was positive enough even though the team was crap.

Green is often referred to as one of the worst presenters in football. This just confirms what we already knew....that he's a prick to go with it.

CasualKen,

RE: "I heard this as well, he had genuine sorrow in his voice about what he was experiencing with the level of atmosphere etc. Not sure who the co commentator was but he made the point that the only people to him who wanted to stand up and create an atmosphere were being told to sit down immediately. That's the first time I've heard any positive support from the media regarding the 'standers' "

Thank you for sharing these observations with us all.

I can't help thinking about the genuine West Ham fans that are now receiving life bans as a consequence of the Baroness Gauleiters...

I like it! There I said it.

Went on Wednesday night, took the whole thing in.

Very impressive and imposing as you walk up to it, walking around underneath with the shops etc is ok and watching the game will do if you're not too high up.

Just not sure of the green thing around the pitch? Does it have to be that green?

Fair do's. If you've been there and don't like it then that's fair enough.

I can't help thinking though that our team's pathetic performances on the pitch are affecting fans' views... In fact, they definitely are.

Re: Radio commentator alan green on the new stadium
The Icelandics offered 100M towards the plans for the stadium to include retractable seating for the purpose of multi-use going forward i.e. football, and cuddly Ken Livingstone turned it down because the bid for it after had to be non-biased, hence us looking at the West Ham site for a while...

Re: Radio commentator alan green on the new stadium
The fucking pitch is 25 yards from the stand! Why are you defending that? No one is saying everything was rosey at upton park or that we shouldn't have moved but what they have sold us isnt fit for purpose and i believe its having and adverse affect on the team. Also that after all the bullshit about moving to the next level we filled the team with loans and freebies

Re: Radio commentator alan green on the new stadium
Alan Green is always negative towards West Ham so not really worth bothering with.

Anyone remember Carlton Palmer tearing us a new one with Southampton at UP in 1999? They won 4-2 that day.

Re: Radio commentator alan green on the new stadium
Spot on Kirok, there's plenty wrong with the stadium and the amateurish way it's been managed but we've had plenty of shit periods before at UP under various managers and owners. Hope Slav can turn it around but no idea how, he's taking this really bad as he's a decent bloke but the players and owners need to take responsibility and help the poor bastard out of this nightmare

Re: Radio commentator alan green on the new stadium
Getting fed up with the posts eulogising the past.
We've been shit on and off for my entire life. Beating teams we should never get anywhere near one week, collapsing to ignominious defeat the next.
Life as a West Ham fan is never easy. But to claim it's all down to the stadium is a joke.
I don't know what has happened but we've been woeful since before the end of last season.
Bilic now looks shot - not the same man who came out, honestly to say what went wrong last year. SOMETHING is happening behind the scenes at the club.
That said, the players are not performing and they tend to escape blame as the manager usually gets it in the neck before they have to pay the piper.
We looked clueless today but I can't say that any of them looked like they gave a crap until Noble came out afterwards and wasn't smug, sneering or anything other than totally honest.
We support a club, not a fucking venue. The fans were shit at times at the Boleyn. So were the team. They'll be shit at the OS until they have something to scream about. They haven't seen it yet, that's all.
